STS Aviation Group Purchases Former MAEL Hangar in Birmingham

JENSEN BEACH, Fla., Oct. 16, 2019 — Two weeks after acquiring Apple AviationSTS Aviation Group (STS), a leading global aviation solutions company, finalizes the purchase of a wide-body aircraft maintenance facility in Birmingham, England.

The facility was formerly operated by Monarch Aircraft Engineering (MAEL) and put up for sale in March of 2019. It features 200,000 sq/ft of total space — including ramp — and has the capacity to service wide-body aircraft. In fact, the facility can house two wide-body aircraft or 10 narrowbody aircraft at the same time. In addition to its size, the complex is home to several on-site component repair and back shops; making it true nose-to-tail MRO service facility flush with vertical lift storage devices, a global reporting room and dozens of laptop mobility hubs.

Mark Smith, President of STS Aviation Group, said “The hangar is beautiful, and thanks to the recent acquisition of Apple Aviation, we have the resources and the manpower in place to have the facility up, running and fully operational by January of 2020 subject to the lease transfer being agreed to.”

P.J. Anson, CEO of STS, added “The wide-body aircraft maintenance facility in Birmingham is a game-changer for our company. This purchase allows us to create a central European hub, one that will stand as a true focal point for multiple STS divisions already operating in the region. As for what comes next for STS Aviation Group, we’ll see. Right now, we’re extremely focused on ramping up operations and getting the Birmingham facility filled with aircraft.”

STS Aviation Group Acquires Apple Aviation

JENSEN BEACH, Fla., Sept. 23, 2019 — STS Aviation Group (STS), a leading global aviation solutions company, acquires Apple Aviation, a world-wide MRO organization based out of the United Kingdom.

With this acquisition, STS continues its recent global expansion. The company will immediately begin to offer aircraft Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) services to customers at a state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance facility located in Newquay, England. The facility houses more than 150,000 square feet of space; 40,000 of which is dedicated as a parts processing facility.

Mark Smith, President of STS Aviation Group, said “As some may recall, STS made a strategic move into Europe earlier this year after acquiring Triumph Aviation Services’ NAAS Division. And with the recent acquisition of Apple Aviation, our company continues to grow on a global scale.”

P.J. Anson, CEO of STS, said “This is a really exciting time for STS Aviation Group and the clients we service. So many of our existing customers have unique MRO needs outside of the United States, and now we have the facilities, the manpower and the strategic resources necessary to offer a full-range of aircraft maintenance solutions to clients all over the world.”

Bernard Longman, Founder and Director of Apple Aviation, said “Apple Aviation is a UK-based MRO that operates globally while supporting various customers including airlines, lessors, military organizations and OEMs. The business had grown rapidly over the last five years, and the founders decided that a partnership through acquisition was the best step forward for the company. We met with various investors and decided that the STS Aviation Group history, team and profile was the best fit for our business. Together, we look forward to expanding our services across the world as part of STS’ M.E.M. (Maintenance, Engineering & Modification) group. Scott Whittlestone and Simon Pickford, the other two founders of Apple Aviation, will also be remaining as key members of the management team with the intention of building the leading, third-party MRO provider in Europe.”
